Workshops that Support Academic Success

  • L.E.A.P. Ahead! During this interactive two-hour workshop students will begin to create a personalized school success plan. Using the analogy of taking a trip, they will: define and clarify their vision of "success" (the destination), examine current levels of performance (the starting point), look at how to get from here to there (plotting the course), and identify & discuss academic roadblocks and how to avoid them.

  • Ready, Set, SUCCEED! Strategies to foster positive attitudes & beliefs, and to support increased success at school and home. During this interactive 90 minute workshop we look at things like: beginning with the end in mind (Setting a positive vision for the coming year), defining the many faces of “success”, effective (S.M.A.R.T.) goal setting techniques, taking baby-steps (breaking things down, focusing on own circle of influence / control, etc.), what stress is & how to reduce it (re-framing, eliminating negative self-talk, what to do when things go wrong, etc.), and additional problem-solving strategies.

  • The Art of Possibility (Student version). Based on the books, The Art of Possibility, by Rosamund and Benjamin Zander, and Authentic Happiness, by Martin Seligman Ph.D., we explore many effective strategies that can be used by students to foster positive attitudes and beliefs about learning and academic success. This workshop also addresses current research on motivation.

  • What's My Style? This workshop leads students through a learning style assessment (from the book, Discover Your Child's Learning Style, by Willis & Hodson) giving them first-hand understanding of what it all means, insights into their learning style, and how to best help themselves with test preparation and homework. This assessment looks at five key areas: disposition, talents, interests, modality, and learning environment.

  • Junkyard Sports. Based on the book by the same name, Junkyard Sports is a fun and interactive away for students to use their bodies and minds to develop and exercise their capacity for play, creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork.
